The Best Mooncakes in Singapore I Can’t Help Stuffing My Face With

The Mid-Autumn Festival is my absolute favourite festival to celebrate, and the primary reason for that is undoubtedly the mooncakes. With their thick, tender pastry skin and dense (and usually sweet) filling, mooncakes always elicit a smile and a contented sigh out of me.

To my delight, I can treat myself to as many of them during the festival season because many local stores and restaurants offer them. There’s a great variety as well—from sweet to savoury!

Craving this tasty pastry? These are the best spots where I buy them!

Crystal Jade Golden Palace is a popular Chinese restaurant in Singapore, and every Mid-Autumn Festival, they go all out in their mooncake collection. They always team up with well-known pastry chefs and brands to create the most mouthwatering flavours.

My favourite flavour so far has to be the chocolate bonbon, which is a delightful combination of creamy red beans, indulgent caramel, mellow pandan coconut ganache, and rich dark chocolate.

Pro Tip:

This restaurant has a membership program that lets you enjoy fun perks like cashback and vouchers.

Mdm Ling Bakery

Contact Number: +6584680201

What I love about Mdm Ling Bakery is that it offers halal-certified and even vegetarian mooncakes, so our fellow Muslim and vegetarian foodies can enjoy this wonderful treat.

You have to get the Traditional White Lotus mooncakes here! They’re made with less sugar, so they’re not super sweet. They have an earthy flavour profile and a lovely crunchy texture, thanks to the melon seeds.

There’s another mooncake variation here: salted yolks! These ones taste richer and more savoury than the previous type, which I like.

Pro Tip:

You can make a custom order for corporate events.

Ding Mooncake

From: cnygoodies.sg

Address: 5 Pereira Rd, #04-01 Asiawide Industrial Building
Contact Number: +6588909055
Website

It’s not a surprise that Ding Mooncake is a beloved brand in Singapore. Their mooncakes are made with high-quality ingredients imported all the way from Hunan, so they taste authentic and unique.

I’m quite obsessed with the Black Gold Mao Shan Wang mooncakes here. They’re made with durian, which I was unsure of at first because I don’t like the fruit’s scent and taste. However, the flavour actually works! Their sweetness is mellow, and the filling has a creamy, silky texture.

These mooncakes also look gorgeous. The black pastry skin paired with a sprinkle of gold dust looks elegant.

Pro Tip:

If you order from the website and your total exceeds S$100, you’ll get free delivery.

Wang Lai Bakery

If you’re looking for traditional mooncakes, then you can’t go wrong with Wang Lai Bakery. Here, you can expect the classic rendition of this treat: a golden, flaky crust with a rich, velvety filling of pure lotus paste or salted egg yolks if you prefer something more indulgent.

This bakery also showcases an array of new, modern flavours. One year, they had kopi-flavoured mooncakes, which I loved. The bittersweet taste of the filling was so addicting.

Pro Tip:

You’ll get free delivery when you order online and your total is over S$100.

Tong Heng Traditional Cantonese Pastries

From: tonghengsg

Address: 285 South Bridge Rd
Operating Hours: Monday to Sunday—9 am to 6 pm
Contact Number: +6562230398
Website

Tong Heng has been making and serving traditional Cantonese pastries since 1935, so you know you can trust them to deliver the real deal. Their egg tarts are the bestsellers, but the mooncakes deserve a shoutout as well.

Their mooncakes come in a wide array of colours. As for the flavour, I love the classic lotus paste because it’s simple and mellow. I also enjoy the mixed nuts because it has an interesting crunchy texture.

Pro Tip:

This shop can get super crowded, sometimes with lines going outside the door. Expect that when you’re coming here. Don’t worry, though, because the line moves fast.

Hung Huat Cakes and Pastries

Hung Huat is one of my go-to spots when I’m craving traditional desserts, so I’m glad to know that they offer mooncakes during the Mid-Autumn Festival as well.

One type of mooncake they serve here is a Teochew-style crispy yam mooncake, which boasts a layered and flaky crust. The way it crumbles with every bite is just so satisfying. It also has a velvety filling of sweet yam paste.

There’s also a black sesame mochi mooncake, which is steamed, so it’s very chewy—much like a real mochi. I prefer the flaky mooncakes, but this type is also fun to eat.

Pro Tip:

I recommend visiting them as early as possible because they tend to sell out very fast.

Hang Heung

Have you ever wondered what a Hong Kong-style mooncake would taste like? Well, now you’ll get your answer by visiting Hang Heung, which is located inside ION Orchard on Orchard Road.

My favourite thing to get here is the White Lotus Seed Mooncake, which I hear is laboriously prepared following a century-old technique. The result is a lotus paste filling that’s super smooth and consistent. It’s also plump and moist because of the salted eggs.

Pro Tip:

You can enjoy a free delivery on a weekday if you purchase S$43.60 and above on their website.

PS.Cafe only started offering mooncakes in 2023, but its debut was such a success that it’ll be coming out with new collections. They have the classic salted red bean mooncake, which is absolutely delicious, but I prefer their non-traditional flavours.

I fell in love with the Double Chocolate Blackout Mooncake because it’s so decadent and rich. The White Truffle Mooncake is also a fantastic choice; the sweet and earthy combination is top-notch.

Pro Tip:

Make a loved one smile by giving them a gift card from this restaurant.

Old Seng Choong

From: oldsengchoong

Address: 290 Orchard Rd, #B1-14 Paragon
Operating Hours: Monday to Sunday—10 am to 9 pm
Contact Number: +6596612154
Website

What I love about Old Seng Choong is their vintage-themed packages, so ordering here feels like getting an extravagant gift.

Though the mooncakes served here are made using traditional methods, they come in innovative flavours. For example, they have a White Lotus Mooncake with black truffle bak kwa. This provides an interesting combination of flavours (sweet and savoury) and texture (the smooth paste plus the crunchy bak kwa pieces).

Other flavours that have captured my attention include Nori Wasabi and Bird’s Nest with Red Date Goji.

Pro Tip:

This bakery offers baby full-month boxes if you want to celebrate your newborn’s milestone.

Man Fu Yuan Restaurant

From: manfuyuansg

Address: 80 Middle Road Level 2 InterContinental Singapore
Operating Hours

  • Saturday and Sunday—11:30 am to 3 pm, 6 pm to 10 pm

Contact Number: +6568251008
Website

I usually visit Man Fu Yuan Restaurant when I want a fine dining experience, but during the Mid-Autumn Festival, the agenda is to indulge in their amazing mooncakes.

What makes their mooncakes stand out is that they’re tea-infused, so they’re aromatic (very floral) and not too sweet. My current flavour is the Earl Grey Mooncake, which tastes like citrusy bergamot and black tea. It also has a strawberry chocolate truffle in the centre, which is a pleasant surprise!

Xin Cuisine Chinese Restaurant doesn’t have an extensive mooncake collection, but I don’t have a problem with this because the flavours they offer are amazing.

Last year, my favourite flavour was the passionfruit mooncake, which tasted fruity and tart. It also had hints of plum, which made the treat even sweeter and more indulgent.

If you want something less sweet, the green tea mooncake is a must-try. That one is pretty mellow, but the grape adds a tart zing that I adore.

Technically, what Paul offers is called “moon tart.” They’re mooncakes with a French influence, which is what makes them stand out for me.

I’m obsessed with the Forever Summer flavour. It’s made with pistachio almond cream and pineapple and mango curd, so the flavour profile is a combination of nutty, fruity, and tart. It also has a tangy passionfruit mousse as the centre, and it always delights me when I bite into the cake the mousse oozes out.

Pro Tip:

Make your event extra special by hosting it at this restaurant.

Janice Wong

From: janicewongsg

Address: 9 Raffles Pl, #01-06 Republic Plaza
Operating Hours: Monday to Friday—10 am to 7 pm
Website

Janice Wong is a beloved dessert brand in Singapore, and though they specialise in chocolate treats, they also serve mooncakes every Mid-Autumn Festival.

The mooncakes served here look like works of art! The flavours also stand out. In 2024, my favourite was the gula lapis one, which was made with pandan, gula melaka (palm sugar), and marzipan.

It smelled fantastic, thanks to the pandan, and the gula melaka made it taste like a deep butterscotch. It was simply indulgent.

Pro Tip:

This shop hosts classes and workshops about making desserts, so attend one if you want to up your dessert-making skills.

Twobakeboys

  • Friday and Saturday—10 am to 10 pm

Twobakeboys offers mooncakes in a variation I’ve never seen before: instead of a thick paste for the filling, this bakery uses several layers of crepe and cream! It’s such an interesting concept, so of course, I had to try it—and now, I’m obsessed with it.

The mango flavour is my ultimate recommendation. It looks so pretty with its bright orange-yellow exterior, and inside is a scrumptious crepe cake with a sweet-tart mango cream. This treat tastes even better with a cup of floral tea.

Pro Tip:

If you order ahead of time (even months before the festival), you can score a discount of up to 20%!

Another restaurant that puts an innovative twist on the traditional mooncake is Yan’s Dining Fine Shanghai Cuisine. While most mooncakes are served sweet, this restaurant’s version is savoury. Even as a dessert lover, I have to admit I like it.

I love the mooncakes with premium abalone, crab meat, and fresh pork. It has strong salty and umami flavours that are then contrasted by the seafood’s delicate sweetness. I love that this savoury mooncake doesn’t taste greasy because it allows me to indulge in an extra bite without feeling guilty.

The mooncakes served at Tai Chong Kok have a homey feel to them. It’s almost like I’m eating treats that a loved one made for me.

This bakery serves the traditional lotus paste flavour, but personally, I prefer the one with the red bean taste. This cake is fragrant, and the filling is rich and dense. It’s not overly sweet, which I love, and it even has melon seeds for the extra crunch.

Empire Fine Chinese Cuisine Restaurant specialises in the traditional Teochew orh nee (yam paste) mooncake, and they deliver every year!

This mooncake is incredibly flaky, so biting into it feels so satisfying. The filling is an indulgent sweet yam paste with an addictive velvety texture. At the centre is a salted egg yolk that adds a lovely salty-savoury contrast to the paste’s sweetness.
