The 5 Best Clinics for Knee Replacement Surgery in Singapore

The 7 Best Clinics for Knee Replacement Surgery in Singapore

Credentials and experience

We scouted the top clinics for knee replacement surgery, and they surely didn’t disappoint! We rated them based on the doctors’ educational background, career experience, and other relevant qualifications.

Scope of services

Apart from conducting professional knee replacement surgery, we picked orthopedic centers that offer other joint and muscle-related treatments or therapies.

Facilities

We didn’t just choose any clinic. We selected orthopedic centers that utilize the latest medical technology and have the most convenient location.

We also checked the cleanliness of the entire facility.

Price Point

Of course, we also had to look at the costs of the clinics’ knee replacement surgery and other treatment plans. We assessed their affordability.

Pros

  • Specialist clinic
  • Personalised and evidence-based treatment
  • Experienced team

Cons

  • Closed on weekends

One of the trusted orthopaedic clinics in Singapore is The Bone & Joint Centre. They’re highly experienced in the field with more than 15 years of experience.

This specialist clinic can help treat a wide range of orthopaedic issues that anyone may be suffering from.

What we like about this clinic is their personalised and evidence-based treatments, which include ankle surgery, minimally invasive bunion surgery, and other orthopaedic surgeries to all parts of the body.

We like that they provide a high level of care, and they stay attentive and caring towards patients so all of them feel cared for and comfortable.

It’s a great thing that they make sure to explain everything thoroughly so that the patients are well aware of their situation and the entire treatment process.

When it comes to patient care and high level of service, we think they’re one of the best options!

Pros

  • An internationally trained and experienced doctor
  • Foreigner-friendly clinic

Cons

  • Rushed consultation
  • Nontransparency when it comes to pricing

One of Singapore’s top-rated clinics for knee replacement surgery is the International Orthopaedic Clinic. Generally, it provides realistic expectations and practical solutions for various musculoskeletal conditions or injuries.

With the help of Dr. Alan Cheung, an accredited consultant orthopedic surgeon in Singapore, it’s no surprise that this clinic has been gaining traction over the past years.

Dr. Cheung was born and raised in England. He completed his medical degree at the University College London and attended fellowship training at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Australia.

Before setting up his own clinic, he worked for the Teng Fong General Hospital as a consultant. He was also a clinical lecturer at the Yong Lin School of Medicine, following his passion for teaching.

Thanks to his impressive medical background, Dr. Cheung has been regularly invited as a course speaker in different Asia-Pacific countries. He has also spent his time conducting training for Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS).

More importantly, he has earned several accolades, including the prestigious Sydney Long Prize in Surgery and the Howard Murray and FMR Walshe Prize in Neurosurgery for his outstanding performance in the medical field.

While Dr. Cheung has a keen interest in knee replacement surgery, he also specializes in sports-related injury treatment for torn ligaments and tendons, sprains, and fractures.

Honestly, the best thing about the International Orthopaedic Clinic is it’s totally foreigner-friendly. Dr. Cheung’s time abroad has helped him effortlessly handle and cater to both local and expatriate communities in Singapore.

Of course, there are also a few things that we don’t like about this orthopedic center.

For instance, a typical consultation with Dr. Cheung can only last for a few minutes. Sometimes, patients may feel like their checkups are a bit rushed.

We’re also a bit concerned about the clinic’s nontransparency when it comes to pricing. You may need to contact its administrative staff to find out how much a knee replacement surgery may cost, along with its other orthopedic treatments.

Pros

  • A veteran orthopedic doctor with 15 years of clinical experience
  • Provides individualized treatment plans
  • Assistance with medical claims

Cons

  • Prorated consultation fee
  • Nontransparency when it comes to pricing

Dr. Ong Kee Leong is also one of the trusted orthopedic specialist for knee replacement surgery in Singapore, and we’re here to tell you why!

First, Dr. Ong is an accomplished surgeon with over 15 years of experience under his belt. He specializes in sports-related injury management as well as degenerative knee and shoulder procedures.

In 2001, he received his bachelor’s degree in medicine from the National University of Singapore. He then proceeded to be a member of the highly acclaimed Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2007.

Moreover, the Ministry of Health Singapore awarded him the Health Manpower Development Plan scholarship in 2012. Later on, he earned the gold medal for the Best Service and Eastern Health Alliance Caring Award.

Dr. Ong is also very keen on teaching and has been invited as a speaker for various local and regional conferences. Most definitely, his hard work paid off when he bagged multiple teaching awards from 2014 to 2016.

Despite being a skilled surgeon, Dr. Ong wouldn’t recommend surgical treatment right away, especially if he thinks that there are still other options available. In fact, he may first facilitate noninvasive treatments like physiotherapy and orthotics.

For those with financial woes, worry not. Dr. Ong’s friendly clinic staff can walk you through your Medisave and insurance shield plan claims.

Get in touch with them through the clinic’s mainline or message them via WhatsApp.

However, our least favorite thing about Dr. Ong’s clinic is its high-cost treatment plans. On top of that, it also has a time-based prorated consultation fee, which can add up to your already expensive bills.

4. Centre for Orthopaedics

Pros

  • A team of top-notch orthopedic doctors who sub-specialize in different areas
  • Offers medical concierge

Cons

  • Last-minute changes in appointments
  • Expensive treatment

The Centre for Orthopaedics has also caught our attention, and we just think that it also deserves a spot on our list!

To give you a quick overview, it specializes in various muscle and bone-related surgical treatments for knee, hip, shoulder, elbow, spine, foot, and ankle injuries or conditions.

Since we’re looking for the best clinic for knee replacement surgery in Singapore, we’ll focus more on one of its sub-units—the Centre for Orthopaedics and Hip and Knee Surgery.

One of its resident orthopedic surgeons, Dr. Jeffrey Chew has particularly sparked our interest, thanks to his impressive credentials. What took us by surprise, however, is his outstanding contribution to this field.

We discovered that Dr. Chew is actually one of the co-designers of the Johnson and Johnson PFC Sigma High Flex knee prosthesis. This prosthetic knee implant was specifically designed for Asian patients to help improve their flexibility.

Dr. Chew also plays an important role in the promotion of robotics in the field of orthopedics in Southeast Asia. He’s one of the first surgeons in Singapore to utilize the latest Makoplasty robot to facilitate complex joint, hip, and knee replacement surgery.

To top it all off, he has bagged numerous prestigious awards from several award-giving bodies. Most recently, he received the Russell Hibbs Award from the Scoliosis Research Society.

Anyway, we also want to praise this clinic for its medical concierge services, which allows patients from neighboring countries like Indonesia, China, and the Philippines to arrange their visits more conveniently.

However, we find the last-minute changes to appointments a bit disappointing. If you’re following a strict schedule, these diversions may cause a lot of trouble.

Plus, compared to other clinics, the cost of knee replacement surgery here can be quite overwhelming. Make sure to contact the Centre for Orthopaedics representative to get accurate estimates of the treatment plans.

Pros

  • A well-established clinic that has been around since 2013
  • Provides ethical and evidence-based treatments

Cons

  • Consultation fee of at least $200
  • Long waiting time

Pinnacle Orthopaedics Group is a nine-year-old clinic in Singapore that specializes in knee replacement surgery. It’s the brainchild of two brilliant surgeons who wanted to make a mark in the field of orthopedics—Dr. Kevin Lee and Dr. Hee Hwan Tak.

One of the things that we like most about this orthopedic center is its ethical and evidence-based approach. It’s also home to well-established clinicians with years of experience in the field.

If you’re hell-bent on getting knee replacement surgery in Singapore, you may want to get in touch with Dr. Lee. Out of the five resident doctors of Pinnacle Orthopaedics Group, he’s the go-to specialist for this type of surgical treatment.

In 1996, Dr. Lee graduated from the National University of Singapore and became a member of the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh. Consequently, he underwent subspecialty training at the prestigious Stanford University in the United States.

During his time abroad, he was highly involved in several clinical and scientific research on biomaterials, joint replacements, and stem cell therapeutics in orthopedics. He also landed a spot on the American Association of Hip and Knee Replacement Surgeons.

Just when we thought nothing could go wrong with this clinic, we noticed some delays during their scheduled consultations. The long waiting time can also be stressful, especially if you’re already anxious about the checkup.

You may also have to prepare your wallet for the relatively expensive rates for its surgical treatments, not to mention its $200 consultation fee.

Pros

  • An orthopedic surgeon with two decades of experience
  • Doctor communicates well with patients

Cons

  • High-priced treatments
  • Nontransparency when it comes to pricing

The Orthopaedic Clinic Singapore also joins our list of top-rated local clinics for knee replacement surgery.

Dr. Saminathan Suresh, also known as Dr. Nathan, established this orthopedic center, with an emphasis on limb salvage and revision arthroplasty surgery. He obtained his bachelor’s degree in medicine at the National University of Singapore in 1992.

After some time, he went to Edinburgh to attend a fellowship program at the Royal College of Surgeons. He was then given the Academy of Medicine Gold Medal Award and the Yahya Cohen Gold Medal Award for Best Clinical Performance.

As he gained more experience in the field, Dr. Nathan has snatched some leadership roles at the National University Hospital Singapore. For instance, he served as the clinical director of the Musculoskeletal Oncology Division of the said institution.

We also learned that Dr. Nathan was one of the only two representatives from Singapore who was admitted to the International Symposium of Limb Salvage Surgeons.

The only downside we see from this clinic is its high-cost treatments. There are also issues about transparency when it comes to its pricing, which can take you by surprise when the bills arrive.

OrthoKau is a Singaporean orthopaedic practice. They treat patients of various ages and ailments, with a focus on hip and knee problems.

You’ve probably seen the tree in the middle of their logo. Based on their website, this tree is a contemporary interpretation of the Orthopaedic emblem or the original Tree of Andry, which was created in 1741 by French surgeon Nicholas Andry. The tree in their emblem signifies life.

They want to bring regeneration and rejuvenation at the center of it all. Their patients are represented by the snowflakes within the leaves. Each is distinct, thus, no two are the same, yet they are all gorgeous.

Their philosophy is patient-centered. Each patient has distinct symptoms and complaints. They understand that therapy must be personalized specifically to you. There is no such thing as a one-size-fits-all solution. They aim to simplify it all and create a personalized answer for your requirements in an information era where so many alternatives might be confusing.
